La selva - the area

Catalonia is a mountainous region in N.E. Spain, and La Selva is a richly forested area in Northern Catalonia.

romanyÀ de La selva

Our local village Romanyà De La Selva is a picturesque medieval hamlet built around a 13th century church, set on top of a forested hill on the edge of the Gavarres Nature Reserve. The forest of Catalonian cork oaks, Mediterranean pines, alders, hazels, eucalyptus, plane trees, strawberry trees and chestnuts stretches out in every direction. Looking across the forested plain from the village, on a clear day, you can see the Pyrenees.

The village is a 15-minute drive from some of Spain’s most beautiful beaches and coves. The rugged coast of the Costa Brava offers many stunning walks as well as fabulous swimming spots.

Among our favourite beaches a short drive from the house are:

Playa Castell

Playa Sant Pol

Playa Sa Conca

Cala Rovira

Playa Sant Feliu

Optional sea swims are an integral part of most of our retreats and residencies.
