MARCH - APRIL - MAY - June

September - OCTOBER - NOVEMBER

€595 per week

Spend a week with a project of your own in Romanyà de la Selva, a small medieval village in the magical forested hills of Catalonia. Our self-directed, self-catering residencies welcome writers, composers, artists and makers in any discipline who want quiet time to develop a piece of work or try out a new idea.

There’s a work table in each bedroom and a kitchen where you can prepare your own meals. The days are yours to arrange. Spend the morning on a manuscript, a score or a set of sketches, then head out along forest paths past ancient dolmens and menhirs and through quiet groves. The beaches and coves of the Costa Brava are a short drive away if you fancy a walk by the sea or a swim.

Get in touch to tell us a little about what you’d like to work on and when you’d like to come. We are also happy to answer any questions you have about your creative time here, and any needs that you have to support your work.

Rooms and meals. Bedrooms have a work table, and you can use the kitchen to prepare your own meals. Ask about twin or double rooms if you’d like to come with a partner or friend.

A Quiet Place. We ask that everybody keeps noise down from 11.30 pm. There will be on average four creatives on a residency each week.

Working here. The rooms have natural light, heating and plenty of sockets. They suit desk-based projects such as writing, research, sketching and editing. Choose a project you can do with dry materials at a work table. Some spaces have a digital piano and studio monitors. For audio work, plan to use headphones or work at moderate volume. Wi-Fi varies by room and property, so tell us if a reliable connection is essential to your work.

Getting here. Girona Airport is about 25 minutes away by taxi, with an estimated fare of €55. High-speed trains from Paris/ England stop in Girona. Barcelona Airport is about 90 minutes away by car. You can also take a coach from Barcelona airport to Santa Cristina d’Aro where we will collect you.

What to bring. Pack your creative tools, comfortable walking shoes, a small daypack, a water bottle, sun protection and insect repellent. Bring light clothes in summer and layers and a rain jacket in spring or autumn. If you fancy a sea swim, pack a swimsuit. The Costa Brava beaches are 15–20 minutes away by car.

Enquire about dates, rates and rooms. Tell us when you’d like to come, what you’d like to work on and any workspace or access needs..

sea-shore walks on our retreats

“There were so many positives! In the end, I think I enjoyed most the friendly camaraderie between all the participants (leaders, led and support). I have learned a great deal. The retreat actually surpassed my expectations.”
